Insolvency advice doesn’t need armchair experts

Insolvency advice, doesn’t need armchair experts. But why do many people take advice from their fishing partner or gym buddy? In a word, Trust.

Trust is important

It’s easy to talk to a friend. But it’s also easy to assume that a trusted friend’s advice must be great advice. It rarely is.  Confusion can also set in when two different experts give opposing advice. So, what is the solution?  Put the work in. Do your own research. Don’t dismiss experts that push social media and emails out to you. That’s called marketing.

Don’t delay

Quite often insolvency help is required very quickly as time is a precious commodity that is in short supply. This is especially true when a winding up petition is in place. But that does not mean you should agree to the first offer of insolvency help.

If you warm to the advisor on the telephone then that’s a start. If everything that the advisor says sounds logical then that’s a positive too.  However, most insolvency help in the SME sector is done over the telephone and so there is little time to build up any trust.

The next best thing to trust

When time is short, you need proof that the advisor that you are talking to can be trusted. Only instruct an advisor that is willing to allow you to talk to a couple of his satisfied clients. Then double check on Companies House to see if all the facts are corroborated. If they are not then go back to the advisor and ask further questions. There might be a logical answer that allays your fears.

Do your bit

When your advisor is on board and asks you for information, state how long it will take you to send the information and send it on time.  You can’t expect your advisor to get you where you want to go if you don’t provide all the facts. A good advisor will be transparent in their dealings with you – be the same with your advisor. Fees to the advisor should be paid immediately as good advice is the most important commodity that you need. Add Directors Circle to your short list of advisors and call 0333 050 8518.
